Chapter II - Services to Support FAIR Data
Joint Workshop by OpenAIRE, RDA Europe, FAIRsFAIR and EOSC-hub
Moderation: Sarah Jones (DCC) - Presentation
What makes a service FAIR? What does this mean for researchers? What are the priorities for implementing FAIR data and FAIR services? These are just some of the questions that this one-day workshop will address. The workshop comes in the context of two major EC projects, RDA Europe and OpenAIRE, which both aim to support Open Science and the implementation of FAIR principles within their community-driven recommendations, service provisioning and researcher support.
Aim: This interactive workshop aims to discuss with the audience what does it mean for researchers to make their data FAIR and how institutions and services can help them to achieve findable, accesible, interoperable and reproducable data. The four case studies showcase services already in place and give insights where these services are based in the research data lifecycle.
Description: In the first part of the workshop, case studies and a plenary discussion will highlight services in the FAIR data ecosystem. The four presenters will address aspects of FAIR supported by their service, the strengths and gaps in FAIR service provision, and how they can interoperate and engage with other services.
- Zenodo - Lars Holm Nielsen (CERN) - Presentation
- FREYA - Simon Lambert (STFC) - Presentation
- Wikidata - Andra Waagmeester (Micelio) - Presentation
- Core Trust Seal - Natalie Harrower (Digital Repository Ireland) - Presentation
In the second part of the workshop, researchers and infrastructure providers and managers will be invited to share their perspectives on what it means to make data FAIR and how institutions or services help researchers make their data FAIR. Attendees will be invited to share challenges, barriers and future perspectives in break out groups.

This workshop is part of a OpenAIRE series to explore how existing infrastructures can work together and understand how to deliver services that support the creation of FAIR research outputs. For more information visit: Workshop Series: Services to Support FAIR Data

Chapter III - Austrian Institutions: Introducing FAIR at a domestic level
Coordination: Paolo Budroni
Since years the project e-Infrastructures Austria and the Federal Austrian Ministry of Education , now joined by RDA, are creating a network of competences at a domestic level. In this context it is relevant to prepare the research supporting units, the community of researchers, the funders and the decision makers to the forthcoming EOSC and the successful implementation of the FAIR principles at a local institutional level.
This chapter of the workshop is directly addressing the research support units which are involved in this process, especially those, which will contribute to the implementation of the FAIR Principles according to Work Package 8 of the e-Infrastructures Austria Project (“Building of FAIR reference points at Austrian RIs)
